St. Bridget Christmas Mass outreach

Dear Leaders of Committees and Groups at St. Bridget Parish,

On December 7 we sent an email explaining the gift planned by Msgr. Carr and the Liturgy Committee and asked that you sign up to help and that you forward the information to the groups you lead - Men's Ministry, Women's Ministry, RCIA, Alpha, etc.  Thank you so much for your response to date!  Many parishioners have signed up to help - especially liturgical ministers and the youth - and we are very grateful for their participation.  We have some slots still to fill and ask that you reach out to your respective groups for assistance one more time.  We hope providing this message will make it easy for you to reach out to your respective groups:

Beautiful Mercy - A Christmas Book from Msgr. Carr and the Liturgy Committee

Why make a gift of this book at Christmas?  National studies tell us that thirty-two percent of people at Christmas Mass only come once a year.  For years we have been letting them go without any real effort to win them back.  Through this gift, we hope to welcome and engage these guests in rediscovering their Catholic faith and St. Bridget as their community.  We also hope to start a parish-wide discussion of what it means to be a merciful person.  All are invited back for a discussion of the book on Tuesday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.

How can you help?  Please consider passing out the gift with a smile and a Merry Christmas.  The books will be given during all Christmas and Christmas Eve Masses at the offertory before the first collection.  The sign up can be found here.  If you sign up, a captain for your Mass will contact you with instructions.  We ask that you come to Mass at least 15 minutes early to check in.  Many thanks for your thoughtful consideration of this request for help, and Merry Christmas!

Best wishes,

The Liturgy Committee

Volunteers Needed -- Passion and Purpose for Marriage - March 24, 2017

Volunteers Needed.......

Saint Bridget is co-hosting with St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s parishes the Passion and Purpose for Marriage event to be held at St. Mary’s parish on Friday, March 24, 2017.

I am looking for a team of four to six volunteers who will sell tickets after Mass one weekend per month in January; Two weekends in February and then March will depend upon how many tickets we will have left to fill the venue.  Specific dates are:

 January 28/29

February 11/12

I am asking if each of you will reach out to your respective groups for assistance.  I have attached a flyer from Dynamic Catholic for you to review which has some information that may be helpful.  You may be able to use this to help when asking folks to volunteer.

Also, we will be putting the request for volunteers on Sign-up Genius and there will be an announcement in the bulletin.  However, I believe personal contact is the best way to ask for volunteers.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance!

 Yvonne

Christmas Mass Beautiful Mercy Book Handout Sign Up

Here is the SignUp Genius link to volunteer to help hand out the "Beautiful Mercy" books:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4aafa629a3fb6-christmas

We'll be distributing books during all Christmas Masses.

Please sign up to help!

You'll work in teams of two (one to hold books, the other to hand them out). There will be a captain in charge of organizing the distribution.

This will only take a few minutes during Mass and will be a blessing to all attending!

The Book is called "Beautiful Mercy" - a compilation of reflections on mercy from Catholic authors, theologians, saints and religious. "Beautiful Mercy is an invitation to rediscover God's unconditional love so that we can share it with others."

Everyone who reads the book will be invited to a book discussion on January 31st.

For more information contact the Liturgy Committee at stbliturgycommittee@gmail.com

St. Bridget Christmas Mass outreach

Dear St. Bridget Parishioner,

Each year at Christmas the Liturgy Committee considers how we can best welcome our guests – especially those who may only join us for liturgy once or twice a year.  We want them to feel the Real Presence of Christ during the Mass and to experience such radical hospitality that they will want to rediscover Catholicism.

This year, with Msgr. Carr’s approval, we have chosen to make a gift of the book Beautiful Mercy to every adult, whether parishioner or guest, attending Christmas Mass.  Beautiful Mercy, published by Dynamic Catholic with an introduction by Pope Francis, is a collection of reflections by Catholic clergy and lay writers about the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.  Each chapter stands alone by addressing one work of mercy so the book is easy to read, yet inspiring.  The reflections provide food for thought and ideas for action no matter where the reader is on his or her faith journey.

Tucked inside each book will be a bookmark invitation to come back to St. Bridget the evening of Tuesday, January 31, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss Beautiful Mercy and enjoy fellowship with wine and cheese.  Those who attend will be invited to choose a small group discussion centered on one reflection, i.e. one corporal or spiritual work of mercy.  Our goal is to ignite a spark of engagement in our regular parishioners and to provide an on ramp to our parish for Catholics who have lapsed in their practice of the faith.

Monsignor Carr has asked us to reach out to the leadership of all groups in the parish both to inform you of what will be happening and to ask your help welcoming guests and distributing the books at the Christmas liturgies.  He has suggested that we distribute the book after the second collection at each Mass.  The celebrant will explain the gift, and then teams coming from both the front and back of the church will distribute the book to any adult with a hand raised. Liturgical ministers serving as lectors or Eucharistic ministers could help with distribution.  Ushers are specifically asked not to volunteer as they will be busy with other duties such as collections and distributing bulletins.

The books are on order.  We are so excited about this opportunity! Here is how you can support us.  Volunteer to help yourself by clicking on this link.   Then let your committee or group know about this opportunity and ask that they participate.  With your help and commitment, we hope to have the schedule complete by 12/12/16.

We will also need facilitators for the small group discussions on January 31.  Advance copies of Beautiful Mercy will be available for you to pick up Wednesday, 12/12, in the Parish Center Meeting Room.  As you read, please consider which reflection fires your imagination and inspires you to lead a discussion.  Short one to two minute videos about each chapter are available here.  We will be back in touch after Christmas to identify group leaders.

By engaging parishioners and guests in a discussion of what it means to be merciful, we hope to continue the good work that began in our Church during the Jubilee Year and help St. Bridget to be, as Pope Francis asks, “a living sign of the love and mercy of the Father in the world.”

Please contact us at stbliturgycommittee@gmail.com with your questions.

 Many thanks,

St. Bridget Liturgy Committee

The Gentlemen sing Christmas Eve: please reply!

Happy Advent!

We have again been invited to sing as the Gentlemen's choir December 24 @ 8:00 PM at St. Bridget Church as we have done for several years now. This will be our annual black tie event where we lead the congregation in Christmas carols and sacred music. We're hopeful you will be able to join us again in this special celebration and witness to our faith.

Allen Bean has arranged for two December Saturday practice/rehearsal sessions for us. They will take place in the church hall (basement):

Saturday, December 10, 8:45 AM

Saturday, December 17, 8:45 AM

Each practice session will last approximately one hour. Each of us is asked to participate in at least one of the two practice sessions as we prepare to lead singing at Mass December 24 @ 8:00. Note: as the singing of carols on the 24th begins at 7:30 we are asked to arrive at the church hall that evening at 7:00 PM for our final warm up.

Would you please be so kind as to email wayneslough@verizon.net whether you will be joining us for our black tie event 8:00 PM December 24 liturgy (warm up @ 7:00)?

thank you gents!

Wayne
