FIRST Saturday of May Meeting

We will meet on the FIRST AND THIRD Saturdays of May, May 5 and 19 in the Parish Center Meeting Room, beginning at 7:00 a.m. with coffee available at 6:30. 

On the FIRST Saturday, May 5, at the beginning of our meeting, we will have a special guest, Donna Adler, the new Faith Formation Director at St. Bridget.

Donna would like to introduce herself and hear about our ministry (what we’re doing, what we need, where we would like to take things). 

Then we will discuss the sixth chapter of Strangers in a Strange Land by Archbishop Charles Chaput, and the weekend readings.

HOLY SATURDAY

MARK 16:1-7

Friends, on this Holy Saturday in our Gospel we hear St. Mark’s account of the Resurrection. The Resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the be-all and end-all of the Christian faith. If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, all bishops, priests, and Christian ministers should go home and get honest jobs, and all the Christian faithful should leave their churches immediately. 

As Paul himself put it: "If Jesus is not raised from the dead, our preaching is in vain and we are the most pitiable of men." It’s no good, of course, trying to explain the Resurrection away or rationalize it as a myth, a symbol, or an inner subjective experience. None of that does justice to the novelty and sheer strangeness of the biblical message.

It comes down finally to this: if Jesus was not raised from death, Christianity is a fraud and a joke. But if he did rise from death, then Christianity is the fullness of God’s revelation, and Jesus must be the absolute center of our lives. There is no third option.

The Schedule:
 6:15-6:20 a.m.  Gather in front parking lot at St Bridget. 

6:30 a.m. Prompt departure from front parking lot of St. Bridget

8:30  Coffee, etc. in Shrine cafeteria

9:00  Guided Tour of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

10:00  Opportunity for Confession

10:30-11:30  Visit to the Dominican House of Studies. Brother Anthony will be giving us a brief tour of the House. The visit will conclude with us praying the Rosary in the Dominican Chapel, led by Brother Anthony.

Note: All activities on the Pilgrimage are optional.    You are of course free to do as little or as much as you like. If you are not interested in the DHOS tour, the time between 10-12 Noon is specifically set aside and can be spent by going to the nearby Shrine of Saint John Paul II ( presumably a vehicle will be available if not amenable to walking), Confession, visit to the Bookstore/Gift shop, or simply spent in private prayer or further exploring the Shrine. 

12 Noon  Gather at the Crypt Church for Holy Mass. Immediately following the Mass, the Stations of the Cross are prayed in the Crypt Church. 

After Stations of the Cross (approximately 1:30) depart Shrine and head to local pub for luncheon ( drivers are treated ).

3:00 p.m.  Depart for Richmond

We currently have 17 folks signed up from St. Bridget, but I only have 2 land yacht drivers enlisted (Charlie and Tony), and Ron, who has room for 4. So, we might need 1 more vehicle. I’ll also check with the St. Edward group, they may have an extra seat?
