Resurrect Third Saturday Meetings Virtually?

Email from Mike:

I know that we all enjoyed our blacktop meeting and plan to do another one in September, which is great! However, when I read the message from Dirk, I pray that I am not being selfish. Are we being selfish? In a perfect world, it would be nice if we could somehow go back to the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, “embrace the beauty of and.” 1st in-person and 3rd virtual. I can’t commit to running the Zoom for the 3rd, but I would commit to “attending.” Do you think it is worth polling the group to see if there is any interest in resurrecting the 3rd Saturday as a virtual meeting for those brethren who are laying low? Actually, given past experience, we need commitments, not just interest, to the extent possible. We could do 8 am, since it is unlikely our virtual folks would be attending Saturday Mass. Thoughts?

Please email lshadowen@aol.com if you are willing to facilitate or attend a virtual 3rd Saturday meeting.

Thanks!

September Saturday Meeting - In Person on the Blacktop! Saturday September 12, 7:00 AM BYOCC&M (Bring your own coffee, chair and mask)!

As in August, we will continue to wear our masks during our meeting.

A Message from Dirk

Thank you Leon; I will not be attending Saturday, although I love all of those at St. Bridgets!  I am doing well; my eyesight is now normal after corneal transplant; however, I have been laying low because of COVID-19.  A family member of my wife, in Texas, a mother of two children has COVID-19, and although she is now okay the disease is nothing to mess with, as you can imagine.  You can tell everyone that I am doing well but being extra cautious.  I watch the masses on You tube and try to keep in touch that way.    I hope to see you and the group as soon as possible. Your friend in Jesus Christ, Dirk

Once we are seated and as long as we are outside and are approximately 6' apart we do not need to wear face masks while on the blacktop. If anyone comes into the building the mask must be on the proper way. It is required when leaving as it is hard to keep 6' distance.

In-Person Meeting Poll Results and Next Steps

Results of our In-Person Meeting Poll:

Those favoring in-person meetings generally: 6

Those favoring in-person meetings if outside and we keep our distance 2

Those favoring in-person meetings and offer virtual for those who prefer virtual 1

Other thoughts/considerations:

Concern for those who have an underlying medical condition that makes them more vulnerable

See if we can use the pavillion at the abbey where they’ve had outside Masses

See if we can use the church hall/basement since its a big space

Conclusions

Based on the above, seems like we should try an in-person outdoor meeting for our August 1 meeting, current weather forecast: Scattered thunderstorms in the morning, then becoming mostly sunny late. High 93F

Please email lshadowen@aol.com with opinions/ideas for the venue, which, ideally, is covered in case of inclement weather. Below are some ideas. Always open to other thoughts/considerations as well!

Pavillion at the Abbey - anyone know how to get permission?

St. Bridget parking lot - same question?

Deep Run Park - my recollection is there are shelters there, are parks open to the public?

Thanks for your participation!
