New Sunday Scripture Discussions

From Dale:

N E W  S U ND A Y  S C R I P T U R E  D I S C U S S I O N S

The first program is “Jesus is Alive: Hear, Feel and Believe in the Resurrection”.  This is an opportunity to meet our Deacons informally for about 20 minutes at 10:15 a.m. each Sunday to hear key points from the day’s gospel, ask questions and comment.  As we all choose to come closer to Christ, we now have a time to deepen our experience with our Savior.  Held in the Murphy Conference Room.

Fish Fry Thanks

Fellow Parishioner and Fish Fry Volunteers,

Because of YOU, our Annual Parish Lenten Fish Fry was a great success!

We had a wonderful evening this past Friday night.  The turnout of parishioners was just great, and the fellowship and friendship happening in Mother Presentation Hall was great!  The Knights of Columbus met their objective of funding the scholarships they give each year to graduating St. Bridget students that are going on to Catholic High School!  We don’t have a final figure for the Fish Fry, as we are tallying up the expense side of it, but it is clear that things went well!

Thanks to all that manned the ticket tables after Masses leading up to the Fish Fry.  That was a great help in getting the word out and preselling to many coming to the Fry!

From the ticket sales ahead of the Fish Fry, and those that came to the door, we figure that over 425 meals were served!  Wow!  The men on the cook team in the kitchen, led by our resident chef and caterer Alan, were whirling dervishes trying to stay ahead of the crowd!

There was a lot of action at the raffle tables for the raffle baskets and the 50/50 drawing!  Thanks to the Women’s Bible Study group and St Bridget School and to several parishioners for donating baskets!  And thank you to the brother Knight that donated that great bottle of Chivas!

Thanks also to the Wine and Beer donors – both were sold out and had to be replenished – wow!

The serving lines were kept busy throughout the night.  We had many great volunteers helping serve, including the St Bridget Service Team.  They all did a great job!!  And, a special callout to Rick and Madeline for putting in an incredible effort!  Rick was like a tornado on line 1!

And, much cake and ice cream was served, and coffee and drinks drunk!  Thank you to all working those stations.

A special thanks to those that set up for the dinner – Ray and Kathy and Kath to name a few, and those that helped de-setup – including the Sloughs and the Luxtons.  Many hands make light work!

Finally, it was great to have Monsignor and Fr. George with us!  Monsignor truly enjoyed himself, and Fr. George stepped in as Pat Sajack to draw the prize winners.  Thank you!

And, we very much appreciate our St. Bridget School and its support to make the Fish Fry a success!

Please plan to come again next year – but buy your tickets ahead of time!  That will really help!

Best,

John

Volunteer for Holy Thursday Mass

From Don D. of the Liturgy Committee:

I am reaching out to you as leaders of many of our Parish Life groups in hopes that you might be able to assist the Liturgy Committee with finding volunteers to participate in the Holy Thursday Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper and Transfer of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Each year we reach out to various groups and organizations to help us recruit volunteers for the Ceremonial Washing of Feet during Mass. I know that many of you may have participated yourselves in this ceremony in past years and you know how important this ceremony is to the Catholic Faith and its significance in the Holy Thursday Mass.

Jesus washed the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper as a sign of the new commandment that Christians should love one another: “such as my love has been for you, so must your love be for one another. This is how all will know you for my disciples; by your love for one another” (John 13, 34-35). For centuries, the church has imitated the Lord in the ceremonial washing of feet on Holy Thursday.

We are hoping that you might be able to identify one or even two people from your group that might be able to join us by participating in the ceremony this year. Children are also welcome, and last year Michael's daughters participated.

The instructions are very simple and we will have coordinators in the Sacristy before Mass to review the instructions. I have also attached a copy of the instruction sheet that might be helpful.

Finally, for any volunteers we are having a rehearsal for Holy Thursday Mass this Saturday March 19th at 1:30 in the Church. This is not mandatory for those having their foot washed, but certainly they are welcome to attend and relieve any anxiety they might have.

Thank you for your assistance and please email Don at donaldfdelaneyjr@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.

Annual Pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception - Saturday, March 5

THIS SATURDAY!

The Men's Ministry Pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington is this Saturday, March 5.  This year we will be joined by a contingent of the Men of St. Joseph from St. Edward Church.

The Lenten Pilgrimage includes a tour of the largest Catholic basilica in the United States, opportunity for Confession, a private Mass in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel celebrated by Fr. Stefan, Stations of the Cross, and lunch at an Irish Pub.  Also available is an optional side trip to the nearby Dominican House of Studies, as well as opportunities for private prayer and gift shop/bookstore shopping.

In this Year of Mercy, the Holy Door of The Shrine will be open and Pope Francis has conceded a plenary indulgence to pilgrims meeting the usual conditions (all available at some point during the day).

We depart from St. B's front lot promptly at 6:30 am (offer it up as part of your Lent).  We are usually back in Richmond by 5:30-6:00 pm

If you want to go, please let Mike know at ckoz654@aol.com
