Precious Life Rosary - small group Zoom session TUESDAY 4/7, 7:00 pm

Do good, be inspired. Join a small group of men who will be gathering virtually in a zoom meeting to say the rosary in the Precious Life format about which I briefly spoke in our virtual meeting Saturday.

If you prefer to participate by watching only (not praying the rosary) that is perfectly fine. What you will hear and see, either way, is the Precious Life rosary.

Here's the link to the zoom meeting being hosted by Mark K:  https://cengage.zoom.us/j/3874902084 ;

If this link doesn't work, simply copy/paste it into your browser. Thank you Mark!

Below is the document which was circulated at our March meeting, it a description of my proposal that we evaluate hosting, with the St. Bridget's Knights of Columbus Council, Mr. Mike Skinner for a program in the fall. Mike is the founder of Gratia Reflections and developed the Precious Life Rosary.

Hope to pray the rosary with you this Tuesday,

Wayne S

Speaker & Program Idea: St. Bridget’s Knights of Columbus Council and Men’s Ministry jointly host:

Mike Skinner, Founder, Gratia Reflections from Baltimore, MD

WHY: The Story

• Malvern Retreat House, Malvern, PA (https://www.malvernretreat.com/): longest serving, largest Catholic retreat house in the U.S. (men’s, women’s, and family’s retreats)

• For six or seven years, a small group of St. Bridget men have annually attended the retreat house’s early January Our Lady of Fatima weekend retreat (Patrick G, Charlie G, Andy C, Greg S, Harry S, and more recently, Mark K, Scott F, Frank R, Wayne S, Bruce S)

Mike Skinner has been a lay presenter at the Malvern retreat for two or three years now (and apparently keeps getting asked to come back); he’s been an annual retreatant at Malvern for four or five years running.

Two years ago, Wayne witnessed Mike’s talk at Malvern about the Men of Virtue rosary (“there’s never been a more important time for good men.”) This rosary, prayed by men, appeals heavily to the divine intervention of the Blessed Virgin. It features five mysteries for men: Zeal, Courage, Gallantry, Humility, & Loyalty. I was struck by its power, including the power of praying this rosary with a large group of men.

- Upon returning to Richmond from the 2019 Malvern retreat, the St. Bridget Men of Malvern chose to meet monthly at St. Bridget to pray the Men of Virtue Rosary

This year (January 2020), 11 St. Bridget men attended the Malvern Retreat. Once again Mike Skinner presented a program customized for the Malvern Retreat, where he introduced an additional special rosary, the Precious Life rosary.  It’s five mysteries are Marriage, Conception, Design, Posterity, & Salvation. The talk, and the subsequent gathering of 300 men at the Lady of Fatima grotto at Malvern to pray together this rosary was quite moving and powerful. The St. Bridget Men of Malvern are now meeting monthly to pray this rosary. We did so Tuesday evening (March 3rd).

• Wayne approached Mike Skinner at this year’s retreat and has since spoken with him at length about the possibility of his presenting a talk (talks?) at St. Bridget similar to what he has done at Malvern. He embraced the idea and is, with some planning, ready to come. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeljskinner/)

NEXT? I propose our St. Bridget’s Men’s Ministry and Knights of Columbus council host Mike Skinner this fall, and possibly again next January, to present talks, followed by the praying of these special rosaries, for men of St. Bridget.

• October 2020: Mass for Deceased Knights of St. Bridget’s Council: Men of Virtue rosary. If this well received, follow with

• January 2021: in conjunction with St. Bridget Respect Life Holy Hour: Precious Life rosary

PLEASE DO THIS:

Go to https://www.gratiareflections.com/, see Mike Skinner’s site, read about his personal story, explore the site, listen to the saying of this rosary, watch the EWTN broadcast where Mike was interviewed about his “conversion” and inspiration for these rosaries.

Come next month prepared to discuss and decide whether our two groups want to own such an event!

Join us in Lighting a Candle for all Impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic

Join us in Lighting a Candle on behalf of all those Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Dear Friend of Mary's Shrine,

Fear of the COVID-19 pandemic is gripping people across the far reaches of the globe, and if you are like many of us, you may be asking what else you can do to help.

Lighting a candle for loved ones or the personal intentions we hold within our hearts, is a longstanding tradition of the Catholic Church. A lit candle represents the Light of Christ. As we light candles on behalf of others, we ask that the Light of Christ shine on those for whom we pray. In addition, a lit candle represents our prayers rising to the throne of God.

We at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, therefore, invite you to join us in this faithful tradition by lighting a candle at Mary’s Shrine in supplication for those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

In response to his extraordinary event, the National Shrine invites you to Light a Candle for all affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic, especially the deceased and the first responders tending to the sick.

The Shrine priests and I are honored to light a candle for your special intentions and to entrust your fervent prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary's loving intercession.

Since the coronavirus pandemic has forced us to close our doors to the public, the church has remained mostly dark. As you light a candle, you are not only offering prayer, but, you are actually bringing light to Mary’s Shrine!

Of course, no donation is ever required for prayer, but like you, Mary’s Shrine has bills that must be paid to help us continue our ministry. Please be assured that whatever amount you are able to spare is gratefully appreciated.

Thank you for your prayerful support of the National Shrine!

May God preserve you and Mary Immaculate protect you during these difficult days.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Monsignor Walter R. Rossi

A Hidden Life - Is now available for rental on Amazon Prime, etc.

An extraordinary film. Inspired by true events. An Austrian farmer refuses to take the oath to AH during WWII, akin to St. Thomas More. It is a Terrance Malik film, beautifully made, thus it is good to get you through an entire evening because it’s 3:40 minutes long!

40 Days for Life - The current 40 Days for Life  campaign runs from February 26 (Ash Wednesday) thru April 5(Palm Sunday). In Richmond, a second Planned Parenthood facility is projected to open at 1122 N. 25th street in the coming months. The leadership team of 40 Days for Life has decided to pray at both locations, including the current location of 201 N. Hamilton St. A peaceful vigil of prayer will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each of these 40 days.  If you are able, please sign up to pray for an hour at the vigil.  Given our proximity, St. Bridget would be focusing on the N. Hamilton St. location.  For more information, please visit  www.40DaysforLife.com  or email  lovethemboth.40@gmail.com

If you are not able to pray at the location itself, please consider devoting an hour of prayer in support of the mission of the 40 Days for Life campaign by attending the regularly scheduled Adoration and Benediction being held at St. Bridget every Tuesday evening from 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Dear Jesus, we believe you are truly present in each consecrated Host.  Please pour your blessings upon the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil. Strengthen each of us, as we work and pray for an end to abortion.  Please heal and reconcile all who have been touched by abortion. Give us the wisdom and resources to help pregnant mothers choose life. Inspire conversion of hearts and minds, that all will come to recognize the dignity and humanity of the unborn child.

Our Lady of Guadelupe, patroness of the pro-life cause, we humbly seek your motherly guidance and prayerful intercession. Amen.

Carol - Peace be with you!

As soon as we finish the St. Joseph Novena, we will begin The Coronavirus Novena.

While we face the coronavirus pandemic, let us turn to the face of God in prayer and ask for His healing, His help and His protection.

We will start praying on Friday, March 20th.

We will pray for all who are affected, for all who are sick and suffering, for all those who work in the medical profession, and for those who have died as well as for their grieving family members.

During this novena we will be asking the intercession of these saints:

The Fourteen Holy Helpers, those who lived during the time of the plague

St. Anthony the Great, patron of those affected by infectious diseases

St. Edmund, patron for victims of pandemics

St. Damien of Molokai, who put himself at risk to minister to lepers

St. Rocco, who is venerated for his prayers for those suffering from infectious diseases

St. Joseph, patron of the dying

St. Jude and St. Rita, patrons of impossible causes

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, who founded hospitals dedicated to caring for the sick

All St. Bridget events cancelled through April 3, 2020

Good afternoon

You are receiving this email because you are listed as the facilitator/coordinator of a bible study, book discussion, meeting or other event scheduled during the week of March 30th.  Because of the COVID-19 virus we have closed all conference rooms for the next few weeks.  We are cancelling all events at this time through April 4, 2020.  Because of the fluid nature of this pandemic it is likely that meetings/use of Church facilities will be cancelled the week of April 6th as well.  Please reach out to your participants and let them know that your gathering has been cancelled.  If you have any questions this direction please feel free to contact Vicki or me.  Thank you for your continued support and understanding during these trying times.  Please stay safe and in good health!

Men’s Ministry Pilgrimage

Email from Mike K:

Gents,

Due to the measures being called for by the Archdiocese of Washington ( we are now within the 14-day window of our scheduled trip) and the requirements of “social distancing” for groups of 10 or more, I think we will need to cancel the Men’s Ministry Shrine Pilgrimage this year. See link below for more information.

FYI, I have information from the K of C regarding a pilgrimage program available at the Saint Pope John Paul II Shrine in D.C. during the summer months. I will look into that as an option.

Shrine Pilgrimage—March 28

Email from Mike:

Gents,

Change to Itinerary, have to add Saint Pope John Paul II Shrine visit opportunity for the guided tour of Franciscan Monastery. I think you can still visit the Franciscan Monastery on your own, they just don’t have a guided tour available until the afternoon. Please see below. It’s not too late to sign-up!

In order to avoid detracting from the Diocesan Men’s Conference, being held at St. Bede on Saturday, March 21, and to allow those wanting to attend that event, our Men’s Ministry Lenten Pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is now scheduled for March 28.  As before, all parts of the Pilgrimage are of course optional and we frequently have small groups and individuals going in different directions a la carte. Unfortunately, due to availability and timing, we will not be able to dine as a group at the Irish Pub...so, sorry. Below is a tentative itinerary, with the various options, with links also below:

6:20 a.m.  Gather at front of St. Bridget

6:30 a.m.  Departure

8:30 a.m.   Arrival at Shrine Cafeteria. Coffee, etc. as needed

9:00 a.m.  Guided Tour of The Shrine

10:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon. Opportunity to visit the Saint Pope John Paul II Shrine, now operated by the Knights of Columbus. I’m checking with them to see if a guided tour is possible. I think you can visit the Franciscan Monastery at this time as well, they just don’t have a morning guided tour available.

10:00 a.m.—12:00 Noon  Private Time for prayer, visits to bookstore/gift shop (also available at Monastery) and/ or Confession. Confessions are available at both the Shrine and the Monastery and Father Tochi will be able to hear confessions as well. I believe the Rosary is prayed in the Crypt Church immediately before the 12:10 Mass.

12 Noon. Suggested lunch time. Shrine Cafeteria, Catholic University of America dining options  (on-campus or bordering retail area)

Approximately 1:00p.m.  Stations of the Cross in the Crypt Church (lower level of the Shrine immediately following the 12:10 Mass)

2:00 p.m.  Private Mass in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel (upper level of The Shrine)
Celebrant is Father Tochi. Deacons attending can assist I’m sure.

Regroup in Cafeteria area following Mass for immediate departure back to St. Bridget.

Please let me know by replying to ckoz654@aol.com if you plan to go on the Pilgrimage and if you would be willing to drive if necessary. If a possible driver, also include how many your vehicle can comfortably fit.

Thanks and best wishes for a fruitful Lent!

Testimony

Below is an email from a college teammate in response to prayer request to our team. I thought it was worth sharing:

Kelly,

..and To All My Fellow Beloved Teammates, Coaches, Family and Friends,

My story is not a typical one, so I wanted to share with you what happened to me and my testimony –

I’ve never really told this entire story, so bear with me….

My story started out on a typical Saturday morning in September, where I met 3 of my fellow cyclists in Mount Pleasant and we rode to West Ashley to gather with another group of 50 or so. From Mt. Pleasant to Folly Beach and back was around an 80 mile trip. I managed to put about 300 miles a week into my riding and was in “three-a-day shape” when I noticed that this day was different…I wasn’t at the front of the pack anymore. Instead I was more toward the end of the pack and my breathing was getting harder. That week I had a regular yearly physical with my doctor and within an hour after leaving his office and heading back to work I got a call from the doctor, I didn’t realize that my life was about to change.

Within an hour I was on the table getting stuck and attached to every kind of medical device I could imagine. I remember the “Specialist” was an odd looking character – he reminded me of the “Doc” in the movie - Back to the Future. The Next morning at the hospital in Charleston, as I tried to clear my head from all the medication/etc., he told me I had Leukemia, specifically AML (acute myeloid leukemia). I decided that he was a little too weird with that long stringy hair for me, so I elected to have my chemo induction at Vanderbilt which was to start immediately.  We had family in Nashville and Kim (my wife) and I were familiar with Vandy’s 1st rate cancer treatment centers.

After 44 days in what I called the “Tower of Hell” and two back-to-back major chemo inductions, I was released. You see, the “Tower of Hell” was not only Vandy’s top cancer treatment facility, but it also doubled as the main trauma center, and right above my top floor room was the main heliport. Between the Helicopters and the nurses coming and going all night I never really got any rest.

During that time Two Awesome Things Happened!! The first was a totally awesome banner from the team with balloons and everything all indicating their Best Wishes to me and that they missed me at the reunion. I cried when I saw the overwhelming support they showed me in a video and on paper – It was like knowing you have an ARMY of fellow fighters with you – AND KELLY, THE SAME THING GOES FOR YOU!!!!!.  We Are YOUR ARMY with GOD Leading the way!

The Second Most Awesome Thing happened when HE CAME TO ME. It was the middle of the night between chemo inductions. I was hot and running a fever, when all the sudden I felt a presence in the room with me! I was suddenly cooled by this calming presence and felt like I could float off the bed. He spoke to me through my mind and told me that everything would be OK. I realize then and there that a miracle had happened.

HE and the team, my family, and all the prayers from all my loved ones and friends cured me.

I just went past my fifth year and after five years they say you are cured – But, I knew I was cured that night.

SURRENDER YOUR TOTAL TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST and that HE ALONE WILL GET YOU THROUGH ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE. When you realize this – “Fear not, for His Rod and Staff will Comfort Me (Ps 23:4).  It Will!

PLUS don’t forget - You’re got “One Heck of an Army Behind You!

GOD BLESS AND MAY THE HEALING HAND OF THE LORD TOUCH YOU AND FULLY HEAL YOU –

I pray in Jesus’s name – Amen
